What shall I wear?

Wear any fitness clothing that allows you to move freely, similar to what you would wear in an aerobics class.

Most importantly, shoes should be comfortable with plenty of cushion and lateral support. You may find that running shoes or cross trainers may have too much tread to allow for side-to-side movement. Lesser-tread althletic shoes such as Puma, Nike, Adidas may be preferable. Dance sneakers such as Bloch (my personal favourites!) or Capezio are an excellent choice for some people. I do not recommend bare feet or sock-feet for class due to lack of support and safety concerns!

How much are the classes and do I need to book?

It is £5 for one hour session. You don’t have to book,  my classes are pay as you go. Just turn up 10 minutes before the session starts. However if you have any promotional voucher you need book.

Can you also print this and bring it to the class with you?

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Make sure you have plenty of water before class, during, and afterwards as you are going to sweat, a lot. It is also a good idea to bring a sweat towel, but apart from that just yourself and a smile.

I haven’t exercised in a long time can I still attend?

Yes of course, you have to start somewhere. People of all fitness levels attend Zumba classes. You can keep all the moves low and won’t be forced to take the high intensity option. Drink water before, during and after your workout! Very important to stay well hydrated. If you feel tired or out of breath…slow down, your body needs to build up endurance and strength, go at your own pace.

What if I have bad knees, limited mobility, overweight, or older…?

You don’t have to do any of the class at a high impact level.  I encourage everyone to take the class at their own pace.  I offer modified moves for people who want a lower impact workout.  I have people of all ages (even in their 70′s!) and sizes, as long as you’re moving and having fun, I’m happy!

I have no co-ordination, will I still be able to do Zumba?

As long as you are not afraid to try, you can certainly do Zumba. Its a workout designed to be fun, its not a structured dance class like the tango or waltz, so there is no need to worry about learning steps. Also, the moves are repeated several times and are very easy to follow. There is no right or wrong way to Zumba so if you are doing a slightly different move it doesn’t matter..just enjoy it. I always say to my clients “It  doesn’t matter if you lose the step just feel the music and move your body to the rhythm “J

You don’t need to be a dancer to take Zumba. If you love music, Zumba is for you, we’re all at different fitness levels, the idea is to get together to have a good time.

What are the Benefits of Zumba?

Prepare to sweat!

Zumba will get your heart pumping and increase your endurance – you’ll have more energy and burn fat. The moves will work your core (abs, back and hips) to strengthen and define them. Besides the physical benefits, Zumba is a “feel good” workout, not a dreaded chore – the music is motivating and fun, you’ll leave happy!

Some people have told me it reminds them of the music you hear on vacation! It’s a good mental break from our busy lives – time for yourself, which we all need!
